Overseas challenges
Take on an adventure of a lifetime! Whether you fancy a trek, cycle or family challenge there are lots of different adventures to choose from in the UK or overseas. MCAI works with an experienced organisation to provide overseas challenges. Please read about the various challenges below (all trek descriptions come from www.charitychallenge.com)
You can check the dates here (http://www.charitychallenge.com/charities/secure/datespdf.html).
Cuban revolution cycle
This ten-day cycling expedition begins in the Cuban capital of Havana and ends by the Carribean Sea in Trinidad some 350kms later. Most of the cars on the road are large American Chevys and Buicks from before the revolution, and buildings have remained untouched for more than half a century. You can't help but be touched by the friendliness and pride that the Cubans feel for their country.
Outside of Havana, there are very few vehicles on the road and as Cuba has a strong biking culture, you will fit right in. You will pass villages separated by colourful fruit orchards, sugar plantations and tree-lined avenues. You will also see the monument to Che Guevera as you pass through Santa Clara.
You will cycle through Cienfuegos, which sits in a bay facing the Caribbean Sea and has attracted pirates through the ages, and continue to the magnificent Sierra del Escambray before finally reaching Trinidad.
You can spend your final evening dining and salsa dancing before returning to Havana.
Mount Kilamanjaro Trek
The Kilimanjaro Summit Climb - Lemosho Route
At 5,895m, Mt. Kilimanjaro is one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the Earth's crust. Your challenge is to reach its summit.
Your trek starts in the rainforests of Lemosho Glades and heads upwards as you acclimatise on Shira Plateau. From here you will catch a glimpse of your goal Kibo, Kilimanjaro's main ice-capped peak.
You continue via the beautiful Southern Flank, Barranco Wall and Barafu Route. Temperatures drop at night, allowing you to enjoy the crisp cool air under the star-studded African skies. During the days you'll rise higher; often looking down on a sea of clouds.
Our groups have excellent success rates (96%) for trekkers reaching the summit, but don't underestimate the challenge ahead. Most trekkers will never have experienced a day as tough as this, with 1,000m of ascent and over 2,000m of descent. It is however victory day!
High Atlas summit trek
This challenge offers a tough, yet incredibly rewarding trek combining unforgettable mountain scenery with the splendour and colour of Morocco and its traditional people, the Berbers.
Morocco is a country full of mysticism and mythology, a diverse and spectacular land. In the midst of it all lies the High Atlas mountain range, home to Jebel Toubkal one of the tallest peaks in North Africa, standing at 4,167m.
Reaching the summit of this awesome mountain signifies the peak of your long weekend trek. You will navigate your way, climbing and scrambling over huge, obstructive boulders and loose rock of Jebel Toubkal.
Trekking will be for 5 to 8 hours each day and will be strenuous yet incredibly rewarding as you trek through peaks scattered with remote Berber villages.
A good degree of fitness will be required for this trip, however there is no technical climbing involved. The weather is unpredictable and can make the going very difficult.
The challenge ends in the vibrant city of Marrakech, where the southern tribesmen and Berber villagers bring their goods to the souks, providing plenty of excitement.
